Ventnor City Farmers Market 2021 dedicated to memory of volunteer Jane Walsh

  • Downbeach

Ventnor City Farmers Market volunteer Jane Walsh died in December. This year's market will be held in her memory.

The Ventnor City Farmers Market is dedicating this year's market to the memory of one of its longtime volunteers, Jane Walsh, who died in December 2020.

In the market's first year, Jane and her husband, Tom, arrived before sun-up to welcome vendors and help them unload their wares and set up canopies. They guided the volunteer brigade to move like a well-oiled machine through many of those hectic moments, according to market managers Penni and Andy Starer and Maria Gatta.

As if her morning workout wasn't enough, she would effortlessly run home after her shift to put a cake in the oven and get the house ready for weekend guests.

We're deeply saddened by Jane's passing, but remain uplifted as we reflect on her strength, selflessness and desire to infuse our little corner of the world with kindness, they said in a release.

Volunteers are the backbone of the Ventnor City Farmers' Market and it is their dedication, friendly smiles and willingness to assist that creates a warm community feeling for market-goers and vendors alike.

The market opens on May 28 and will be held 8:30 to noon Friday mornings through Labor Day weekend.
