MARGATE The city is working on a plan to erect a Wall of Fame at Sigmund S. Rimm Athletic Complex on Jerome Avenue. The concept was forwarded by Commissioner Maury Blumberg who has been involved in Margate baseball and other sports for many years.
The city plans to build a brick wall with plaques honoring Margate citizens who have contributed to the health and well-being of the city.
I like the idea and hope to get support for the preliminary design of the wall, said Blumberg, who attended the Oct. 21 Board of Commissioners meeting via teleconference. It's a nice area there and it's a great way to honor people who have passed or are still living who contribute to the city.
The park where children and adults play sports and other playgrounds across the city have been upgraded over the last several years. The city budgeted $300,000 for various recreation improvements in its 2020 capital bond program.
The existing playground on Edgemar Circle has been converted to a game area for children and adults, with cornhole and chess board tables.

The city is also currently building a new playground next to the basketball courts on Jerome Avenue that will resemble Lucy the Elephant and welcome visitors as they drive into the city from the Margate Bridge. The playground will have swings and a large baseball bat and glove for climbing.
The Lucy playground should be completed within two weeks, Director of Recreation Andrew Miles said.
Commissioner John Amodeo said the city should develop criteria for inclusion on the wall, along with an application or nomination process.
It should be concentrated through the years in sports, he said.
Amodeo said he would like to see the originators of the Margate Colts Football Team included in those considered for the award.
We can work together∧ put something together that makes sense, Blumberg said.
Mayor Michael Becker said he supports the idea.
Miles was charged with coming up with a framework for the Wall of Fame.
