Staffing availability is limiting beach coverage in all three Downbeach towns over the next few weeks. With many lifeguards returning to their teaching jobs and universities, there are fewer certified lifeguards to provide beach coverage and fewer beaches will be guarded.
Beach Patrol chiefs also advise the public that water conditions will be rough this week due to Hurricane Larry, which is churning in the North Atlantic Ocean. Rip currents will become increasingly strong each day this week.
Bathers are advised to swim only in front of a lifeguard and only during bathing hours, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
