ATLANTIC CITY - At its monthly board meeting Tuesday, Sept. 21, the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority Board of Directors granted preliminary and final site approval with variances, and preliminary determination of project eligibility to Village Super Market, Inc. for the grocery store development project. The board also established a fund reservation in the amount not to exceed $175,000 for professional services including environmental consulting, remediation and related activities for the project.

The development proposal for preliminary and final site plan approval is for the construction of a 54,609-square-foot supermarket with onsite parking, landscaping, lighting and fencing at 301 N. Ohio Ave., 267 N. Ohio Ave, and 1801 Baltic Ave, in the city of Atlantic City. It includes 44,100 square feet of a ground floor retail supermarket with an approximately 10,400 square foot mezzanine for administrative support and 227 parking spaces.

This project addresses the immediate concerns of Jim Johnson's Building a Foundation for a Shared
Prosperity report in 2018, CRDA Board Chairman Modia Butler said. Access to high quality food will
improve the amenities that affect the quality of life for current community members and affords the
ability to attract new residents.

A public hearing was conducted on the application on Sept. 2 and based on the evidence and the solid land use planning and engineering testimony provided, the preliminary and final site plan with use, area and bulk variances were recommended for approval by the CRDA board.

The CRDA and its Board of Directors have been working diligently on bringing this project to fruition,
CRDA Executive Director Matt Doherty said. This is an immense step in addressing Atlantic City's status
as a food desert.

In May 2019, the authority released a request for proposals for potential development partners to develop an approximately 40,000-square- foot turn-key grocery store offering access to affordable, fresh foods and household products.

On Aug. 20, 2019, the board approved resolutions designating Village Supermarket Inc., owners of several area ShopRite stores, to develop and operate a grocery store located at the North West corner of Baltic and Indiana avenues.

Board actions will take effect following the expiration of the governor's statutory review period.
