VENTNOR The Board of Commissioners Thursday, April 14 approved new employment contracts for the chiefs of the Fire and Police departments and supervisor of Public Works.
Fire Chief Michael Cahill, Supervisor of Public Works Ed Stinson and Police Chief Joseph Fussner, who is serving his first year leading the Police Department, each received three-year contracts that outline benefits, days off and base salaries and the use of a city-owned vehicle for municipal use. They will be eligible to receive overtime pay in certain instances, but no compensatory time. All are required to work 40 hours a week and be on call 24-7.
Cahill's base salary is $167,101, and he will receive longevity pay not to exceed $11,942. He is entitled to 25 carry-over vacation days but will be limited to receiving a maximum payout of 50 vacation days at end of employment, which can be paid out over five years. He will get 15 carry-over sick days but will be limited to receiving $30,000 at end of employment, which can also be paid out over five years.
All employees get health benefits, 14 holidays, three personal days and three bereavement days.
Stinson's base salary is $167,278 for serving the dual role of engineer and supervisor. He will be entitled to 25 vacation days and may carry over 25 days but will be limited to receiving a maximum of 50 days at end of employment, payable in installments up to five years. He will get 15 sick days but will be limited to receiving $15,000 for unused sick time at end of employment.
Fussner's base salary is $153,671, or 10% more than captain's base pay, and longevity is capped at 10% of base salary. He will receive 35 vacation days, which can carry over to the next year only, but payout at end of employment is capped at 70 days. He is entitled to up to $4,500 a year for continuing education toward obtaining a master's degree.
All three contracts expire on Dec. 31, 2025.
