AtlantiCare to host medication 'Take Back Day,' April 30

  • Downbeach

AtlantiCare will hold walk-up/drive-through medication drops Saturday, April 30, during the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The event will take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Atlantic City and Mainland campuses. Individuals can anonymously drop off unneeded and/or expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medications.

Atlantic City Police and Galloway Township Police will assist AtlantiCare's team in safely and securely collecting medications.

Removing unneeded medications from homes can prevent medication errors, misuse and substance use disorders including opioid addiction, said Alex Kardos, corporate director of Pharmacy Services. No one should ever share their own prescription medications or take others' medications. We're pleased to particate in Take Back Day. It's an opportunity for people to spring clean homes and medicine cabinets by removing expired and unused prescription and over-the-counter medications. We encourage indivudals to drop them off.

Medications should be in their original bottles/containers but that they do not need to be. They can be liquid or solid.

Prescription drugs that find their way into the wrong hands can contribute to drug-related violence and tragedies, Atlantic City Police Interim Chief James Sarkos said.

AtlantiCare's April 30 Take Back Day medication drop off locations will be:

  • AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Atlantic City Campus, 1925 Pacific Ave., Atlantic City,  outside the Michigan Avenue entrance.

  • AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus, 65 W. Jimmie Leeds Road, Pomona, outside the Center for Childbirth entrance.
