MARGATE With the pending retirement of two longtime police officers, the Police Department Thursday, Dec. 15, promoted two officers to the rank of sergeant and appointed a Class 2 officer to a full-time position.
Commissioner of Public Safety John Amodeo administered the oaths of office for the three officers, which include the rank of sergeant for Police Officers Jessica Fane and Joseph Hutchinson, and a provisional appointment for Joseph Szapor, who will serve provisionally while he attends a police academy program.
Fane, a Margate resident, started in Margate in November 2014 after serving as a Class 2 officer in several other police departments. She attended Centenary College where she obtained a degree in psychology in 2011.
She has received several performance commendations in addition to being a field training officer, Amodeo said. She is very visible in the school system, which is great for the kids who have a lot of respect for her.
Retiring Margate Police Sgt. Shane Conesky holds the Bible, as Officer Joseph Hutchinson is promoted to sergeant. His parents stand by proudly.
Hutchinson, who is a product of the Margate City schools, was hired in August 2015 and graduated from the Cape May County Police Academy in January 2016. After graduating from Atlantic City High School in 2008, he continued his education at University of Vermont and obtained a bachelor's degree in political science in 2012. He continued his training in the Margate Police Department and is currently a field training officer, Amodeo said.
Joseph Szapor is sworn-in to a full-time position as a police officer in Margate. His mother Ann holds the Bible, while dad Larry stands by proudly.
Szapor has served admirably as a Class 2 officer since 2021, Amodeo said. Szapor will start the training academy in mid-January. After completing full training, he will be ready to serve as a full-time police officer in time for the busy summer season.
Officers Shane Conesky and Larry Dickerson will retire at the end of the year,
