TRENTON Acting Attorney General Andrew J. Bruck and Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Tracy M. Thompson Friday, Feb. 4 announced that a former licensed practical nurse was indicted for allegedly committing reckless manslaughter at an Absecon nursing home. A registered nurse was also indicted for allegedly falsifying a record at Absecon Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center related to a patient's medical care.
The following defendants were charged as follows in an indictment returned by a grand jury on Feb. 3:
The investigation was performed by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit within the Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor and referred to the NJ MFCU by the NJ Department of Health.
Second-degree crimes carry a sentence of five to 10 years in state prison and a fine of up to $150,000. Fourth-degree charges carry a sentence of up to 18 months in state prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
The charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
