Notable Passing: William 'Billy' Fiore Sr.

William 'Billy' Fiore Sr.

William (Billy) A. Fiore, Sr., 79 of Longport answered his last call and went to join his parents, Robert and Anna, brother, Bobby and sister, Mary Ann Trinkle on June 9. Born in Atlantic City, he moved to Longport at a young age and the tiny town became his passion, only leaving while stationed in Germany while in the United States Army. He served on the Volunteer Fire Department for over 62 years having risen to the rank of paid captain. A leader in the Republican Party since 1973, Billy was elected to the Borough Commission in 1980 after serving as Secretary for the Zoning Board,Tax Collector, and assistant tax assessor. He served on the commission from 1980-2004, between the years of 1992-2000 he was the Mayor.

Billy has been a member of the American Legion since 1967 where he served for two years as Commander; and an Atlantic County Legislative Aide for the New Jersey State Fireman's Association for over 30 years. He was on the Longport Historical Society and a proud usher at the 8:00AM Sunday Mass at the Church of the Epiphany for 65 years. Outside of volunteering in Longport Billy worked in his family business: Bob's Liquor Store, Fireline, Kline Construction and lastly he made his return part time to the Borough of Longport Construction Office.

Billy leaves behind his son, William, grandsons Max and Charlie, granddaughter Kaitlyn, brother-in-law William Trinkle, niece Maria Huba (Nicholas), nephew Paul Trinkle (Laura), their children: Gregory and Gabrielle Huba and Gia Trinkle who he loved like his grandchildren, and a host of special friends which include his beloved firefighter family who provided endless support through his most challenging times.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, June 18 at 11:00AM, Holy Trinity Parish: Church of the Epiphany, 2801 Ventnor Avenue, Longport, NJ 08403. Friends and family may visit from 9:00AM-11:00AM. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing. Memorial donations may be made to the Longport Volunteer Fire Department, 2301 Atlantic Avenue, Longport, NJ 08403.
