Margate Community Farmers Market is the place to be Thursday mornings at the shore

  • Downbeach

MARGATE - Although the first week of the Margate Community Farmers Market was a bit of a washout, vendors stuck it out and got a few hours to sell their products. This week, the second week of the summer market, was much better, with overcast skies and cool temperatures, just perfect for shopping outdoors.

Vendors sell Jersey Fresh produce from local farms, fresh caught seafood, locally made, sustainably sourced foods and health care products. This year, the market features Steve & Cookies whiskey bar and tastings of locally distilled spirits and beers.

There's always something to see or do at the market, including pop-ups and special events, such as the annual Peach Pie Contest. It's best to shop early, especially when its time for Jersey Fresh tomatoes and corn, which sells out quickly.

As always, the market includes representatives from the Community FoodBank of New Jersey Southern Branch, who collect donations to feed those who are food insecure. For every dollar raised, the FoodBank is able to provide families with three wholesome meals.

The Margate City Farmers Market is held every Thursday morning at Steve & Cookies By The Bay, Amherst and Monroe avenues. The market hours are 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
