VENTNOR Cookie Till, the owner of No. 7311 bakery on Ventnor Avenue in Ventnor and Steve and Cookies By The Bay on Amherst Avenue in Margate is looking to expand her food service operations in Ventnor.
At a special meeting held Thursday morning, May 5, the Ventnor Board of Commissioners approved a person-to-person transfer of a plenary retail distribution license to Till, who is in the process of purchasing the Florida Cold Cuts & Liquor building at 7301 Ventnor Ave.
The license will allow Till, operating as Finn & Vera, LLC, to sell bottled liquors, beer and wine at the site.
Till said she was excited to be moving forward with the purchase of the property, which she said was taking longer than expected.
She declined to give more information about her plans for the site until the sale is finalized.
Commissioners Lance Landgraf and Tim Kriebel said they were pleased to approve the license transfer to help a new business open up in town.
Mayor Beth Holtzman was not in attendance at the brief Zoom meeting, called for a sole purpose to transfer the liquor distribution license.
At its last regular meeting on April 28, the commission held a public hearing and approved an ordinance awarding the city's first club license to the Greater Absecon Island VFW for its post home on Dorset Avenue. Only members of the organization and their guests will be able to enjoy a cocktail, beer or glass of wine at the site, similar to the club license awarded to the firefighter's Log Cabin on Jerome Avenue in Margate.
The VFW will pay the city $188 for the license this year, the maximum allowed by state law, and the rate will increase by 20% each year.
Officials said they believe the ordinance would help the VFW attract new members who are veterans.
According to state law and based on Ventnor's year-round population, the city is eligible to approve a total of three club licenses.
