VENTNOR The site of a burned out building is being offered for sale by the city. The Board of Commissioners Thursday approved a resolution to hold a live public auction for the property at 6512 Ventnor Ave., 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 31 at City Hall. The property will be sold to the highest bidder. The minimum bid amount is $270,000.

The price for Block 71, Lot 15 was set by the city's assessor based on current property values. The city paid $85,000 for the lot following a three alarm fire that totally destroyed the mixed-use building over the 4th of July weekend three years ago. No one was injured, but a tenant, who was awakened by her dog, was displaced.

The building was a total loss and unsafe for surrounding structures, Fire Chief Michael Cahill said July 6, 2019. The building was demolished the next day.

Margate real estate broker DJ Gluck offered the property to the city, and it purchased the lot in December 2019, saying it would turn the lot into a pocket park to serve shoppers of the commercial district. That plan never materialized, but property values in Ventnor have increased significantly over the last three years.

The property is zoned mixed-use commercial.
