Ventnor opens the beach bathing season

  • Downbeach

VENTNOR - In the shadow of the towering new Beach Patrol Headquarters being built on the boardwalk at Suffolk Avenue, officials gathered to cut the ribbon to open the beach bathing season.

The building cast a long shadow as the brilliant blue sky emerged from the clouds after rain on Friday night. Weather forecasters predicted a cloudy day, but in Ventnor, the sun was shining brightly.

Mayor Beth Holtzman and Commissioners Lance Landgraf and Tim Kriebel were joined by NJ Assemblywoman Claire Swift of Margate to cut the ribbon, signaling the start of lifeguard protected beaches.

Lifeguards will be on duty 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. this weekend at Suffolk, Dorset, New Haven and Lafayette avenues. The same goes for next weekend with new beaches being staffed as the summer season heats up.

The VCBP strongly advises beachgoers to only swim in the presence of a lifeguard.
