Ventnor Mayor Beth Holtzman with the city's community volunteers, Nov. 10, 2022.
VENTNOR The people who make Ventnor a fun place to live, work or play received recognition Thursday, Nov. 11 at Ventnor City Hall. The Board of Commissioners honored volunteers, some of whom have served in a volunteer capacity on city boards, commissions and community groups for more than 20 years.
The volunteers were treated to refreshments ahead of the 5:30 p.m. Board of Commissioners meeting.
Mayor Beth Holtzman honored the volunteers for serving on the city's Planning, Community Advisory, Cultural Arts and Recreation boards and Ventnor Green Team, along with the many volunteers who make the Ventnor City Farmers Market and other special events possible.
They are selfless and work hard and make Ventnor a better city, Holtzman said.
Commissioner Lance Landgraf said the volunteers make our community wholesome.
Holtzman listed some of the upcoming holiday events, which would not be possible without the volunteers, including the Tree Lighting 5:30 p.m., Dec. 2; Holiday Craft Market 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 3-4; Twilight Holiday Parade 5 p.m. Dec. 3; Santa tour of the city 5:30 p.m. Dec. 9; St. James live nativity 6 p.m. Dec. 9; and the menorah lighting 5 p.m. Dec. 18.
In other business, Landgraf announced that Ocean Avenue behind City Hall would undergo a renovation to provide an additional 4 feet of cartway. The project would reduce the width of the sidewalk along the rear of City Hall to gain space to accommodate an electric vehicle charging station. The dual charging station will reserve one port for the city's soon-to-be purchased EV, and the other for use by the public. Lexa Concrete was awarded a $167,405 contract to do the work.
The board also introduced an ordinance setting times for parking in certain areas during the summer season and the rest of the year. Public parking in beach areas will be limited to nine hours, while parking in business districts will be limited to four hours. The cost for public parking at meters is $1 in the off season, $1.50 during summer months, and $2 throughout the year at the municipal parking lot on S. Newport Avenue.
A public hearing on the ordinance will be held 5:30 p.m., Dec. 15.
