VENTNOR Police arrested a Williamstown man following a foot chase Saturday evening, Nov. 12 and charged him with multiple offenses, including theft of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.
According to a release from Ventnor Police Chief Joseph Fussner, a resident of 5200 Boardwalk contacted police at 11:18 a.m. Saturday to report her vehicle was stolen overnight from the parking lot at Regency Towers condominium.
Sgt. Marc Franco Jr. conducted an investigation and located surveillance camera footage showing a male stealing the car around 4 a.m.
Later that evening, around 8:30 p.m., Franco was on patrol in the area of Weymouth and Winchester avenues when he spotted a male matching the clothing description of the suspect wanted in connection with the theft of the vehicle.
Franco summoned backup and upon approaching the suspect, the male, later identified as Gregory J. Ganski, 22, of Williamstown, fled on foot down an alleyway, discarding several items, including a bag. Police recovered a 9MM handgun, and the bag containing the key to the stolen vehicle.
The stolen vehicle was later located several blocks from where Franco initially observed Ganski. It was returned to the owner.
Ganski was charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Resisting Arrest, Hindering Apprehension, Obstructing the Administration of Law, Forgery, Receiving Stolen Property, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Defaced Firearm, and Possession of a Weapon by Certain Persons Not Permitted to Possess.
Ganski also had multiple outstanding warrants and was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
