LONGPORT The Board of Commissioners, Friday, Nov. 18, introduced an ordinance to raise water and sewer rates.
The new rates for 2023 will increase on the operational side, but the excess water usage rates for usage over 75,000 gallons will remain the same. The changes will be reflected in the next billing cycle.
The increased rates are needed to cover a portion of the cost of improvements to the utility system, officials said.
The new water rate will be $325 annually, up from $215; and the sewer rate will be $395 annually, up from $375.
Excess usage rates that remain unchanged are $1.80 per 1,000 gallons of usage between 75,000 and 100,000 gallons; $2 per 1,000 gallons for usage between 100,001 and 125,000 gallons; $3.75 per gallon for usage over 125,001 gallons.
A public hearing on the ordinance will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7 at Borough Hall.
In a related action, the board awarded a not to exceed $11,500 contract for Garden State Laboratories, Inc. of Hillside to perform water testing of the water treatment system at various locations.
