Longport takes smiley-faced water tower offline

  • Downbeach

The smiley-faced water tower in Longport is currently undergoing rehabilitation. Residents are advised there may be a reduction in water pressure or discolored water.

LONGPORT - The water tower that smiles down on the borough has been taken offline, and domestic water is reaching homes through a direct feed system while repairs are made inside the structure.

Residents might continue to experience fluctuations in water pressure and discoloration through the work period, which is expected to be completed by April 30, 2023.

If you should experience water discoloration, let the water run to flush it out. In addition, please avoid washing light-colored laundry until the water is clear.

If you experience a water emergency during regular business hours
(9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Friday) contact the Longport Public Works Department at 609-823-2731 ext. 114.

If you experience a water emergency after hours, contact the Longport Police Department by calling 609-822-2141.

There are several areas throughout the Borough where residents might see water coming out from fire hydrants,

including 33rd and Amherst avenues, 31st Avenue and the Public Works Building; 11 ½ Avenue Alley and Atlantic avenues; and Sunset and 30th avenues.

Releasing water at times helps maintain necessary levels of water pressure.
