MAYS LANDING Peter Thompson, 51, of Galloway Township, was charged Tuesday with several criminal offenses stemming from multiple inappropriate relationships he had with students while employed as a teacher at the Atlantic County Institute of Technology, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

In early 2022, ACIT officials promptly notified law enforcement that a student disclosed several instances of inappropriate sexual behavior by Thompson. Subsequently, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit, along with the Atlantic County Sheriff's Office, began an investigation that uncovered multiple complaints from other students at the school. As a result of the investigation, Thompson, who is no longer employed by ACIT, was charged with multiple counts of endangering the welfare of a child, criminal sexual contact and official misconduct.

Thompson was taken into custody in Galloway Township and transported to the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing. This continues to be an active investigation.
