Steve Jasiecki/Rubber duckies make their way to the finish line.
MARGATE - The Margate Business Association will hold its annual Rubber Ducky Regatta starting 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 13
The floating quack-a-palooza will be held at Ray Scott's Dock with viewing from the Amherst Avenue promenade and Margate Pier at Washington Avenue.
The MBA has been selling chances at all its events this year in anticipation of selecting the winners of the fun contest.
Weighted and numbered, the little rubber ducks are dumped into into a closed course on the bay and with a little help from the current, they swim toward the finish line. Kayakers in the water will make sure no ducks escape and retrieve the winning ducks with fishing nets. Although spectators will not interact with the ducks, they cheer them on from the viewing areas on the promenade and pier.
Visa gift cards will be awarded to the winners of the first three finishers. Prizes are $1,000 for first place, $500 second place and $250 third place.
The fun starts at 11 a.m. with the regatta beginning at 11:30 a.m. Children win prizes as they try their luck at the Duck Chuck, Quack in the Hole, Fishin' for Fowl and other fun games. USA DJ will provide musical entertainment, and of course, the Chicken Dance song will encourage guests to vie for the best dancer prize.
Tickets are $5 each or five for $20.
