EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - The Atlantic County Utilities Authority will host a blood drive noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at the Recycling Center Conference Room located at 6700 Delilah Road.
Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. Blood is essential to help patients survive surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries. When a patient receives blood, it was given in advance by a generous donor.
ACUA is proud to partner with the American Red Cross to host a Blood drive at the Recycling Center, ACUA President Rick Dovey said. Blood drives give community members a convenient way to donate blood and help save lives.
Donors must be in good health and feeling well. Anyone who weighs at least 110 pounds and who are 16 years of age or older are eligible to give blood. Federal regulations require that whole blood donors wait 56 days between donations.
Those donating are asked to drink an extra 16 ounces of water and fluids before donating and be sure to get a good night's sleep beforehand. Drink plenty of fluids prior to the drive and consider eating iron-rich foods such as red meat, fish, poultry, broccoli, beans, raisins and prunes.
At least one form of identification is required.
