LONGPORT The vendor who sold ice cream on the beach last year has opted not to extend their contract with the borough for another year, the Board of Commissioners learned at their meeting Jan. 18.
Borough Administrator A. Scott Porter informed the board that last summer's vendor, Oil Depot, declined its option to extend the contract for a second year at a 5% increase over 2022.
Vendors interested in selling ice cream, ices and water at pre-approved prices can submit a sealed bid to the Municipal Clerk by the 2 p.m., Feb. 7 deadline. The minimum bid amount is $27,000. Copies of the bid specifications may be obtained from the Borough Clerk's Office, 2305 Atlantic Ave., during regular business hours.
In other beach related business, the board approved the dates for barbequing and picnicking on the beach during the summer season. Barbequing and picnicking will be permitted 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. during holiday weekends as follows:
In other business, the borough introduced an ordinance that would permit the borough administrator to work more than 32 hours in a week when necessary. Current regulations call for the administrator to work no longer than 32 hours.
A public hearing on the change will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15.
