MARGATE A cool breeze amid the summer swelter was enough to ensure the 20th annual Margate Business Association's annual scholarship fundraiser went off without a hitch Friday evening, July 28 at the Sigmund Rimm Recreational Complex on Edgmar Circle.
Event Chairwoman and Realtor Paula Hartman said it was a perfect night for giving.

The annual wine and spirits tastings and auction raises funds for the Daniel and Maria Walters Scholarship program and provides support for students who need it in the city's public schools.
Nearly 500 supporters milled about the rear of the park tasting various wines and spirits, and enjoying light fare from three food trucks lined up on Edgmar Circle.
Volunteers checked-in people at the door and encouraged them to bid virtually on auction items donated by area businesses that included an electric tabletop grill, a firepit and a smoker. Other items up for bids included baskets of liquor, overnight trips, and tickets to various shows and sporting events. The rock/pop band Usual Suspects played music throughout the event.

The event is the scholarship program's main fundraiser of the year. Since its inception, the scholarship program, founded by the Walters as a way to give back to the community, has awarded more than $125,000 to students who have attended Margate City schools. The event also supports the MBA'S Children Fund, which anonymously provides warm clothing, school supplies, food, eyeglasses, summer camp for latch key children, toys and more for children of the Margate schools.
