EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - More than 200 people of all ages gathered May 20 to make a difference in the fight against cancer during the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.  Held at the Anthony Tony Canale Training Center, the event raised $31,379.45 to help fund groundbreaking cancer research and patient care programs in the local region.

The LaSasso family encouraged everyone to Fight like Frankie. From left, Frank, Gino, Tiffany, and Frankie LaSasso.

The event kicked off with survivor and caregiver laps around the track. Ocean City Football Assistant Coach Frank LaSasso gave a moving speech about his son Frankie's battle with cancer. Dr. James C. Wurzer, a radiation oncologist at AtlantiCare, addressed the crowd as the Healthcare Champion. Noley Schenck, a sophomore at Ocean City High School, sang the national anthem. Other special guests included NorEasterNick and Miss New Jersey Augostina Mallous.
