The Arc to hold pep rally for athletes going to Special Olympics NJ

Athletes are going to the Special Olympics NJ Summer Games June 9-11.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - The Arc of Atlantic County will host a Pep Rally & Parade of Athletes, to celebrate Area 8 Athletes who have qualified to compete in the 2023 Summer Games of the Special Olympics NJ June 9-11, 2023 at The College of New Jersey in Ewing.

The parade of Athletes will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 9 at The Arc's main campus at the Airport Commerce Center, 6550 Delilah Road.

The community is invited to attend and cheer on this year's competitors as they exit The Arc's Day Habilitation Center and depart on buses at 10:30 a.m. for the Summer Games.

The Arc of Atlantic County, in partnership with Special Olympics NJ - Area 8, will send 35 athletes to compete in track and field and bocce competitions. They will be accompanied by 14 volunteer coaches and chaperones.

In addition to staff and supporters from The Arc of Atlantic County, community partners from AtlantiCare, Holy Redeemer and other businesses located in the Airport Commerce Center will be on site for the send-off event. Flags, banners, posters, pom-poms, cow bells and enthusiastic spirits are encouraged. No air horns, please.

The athletes, their coaches and families have been training over the last several months in preparation for these competitive games, The Arc CEO Scott Hennis said. We are delighted to host this parade of athletes and pep rally in support of the athletes and send them off to experience the excitement of competition, camaraderie, and working to achieve their goals.

The Arc of Atlantic County provides support and sports and recreation opportunities to athletes who wish to compete in the Special Olympics NJ Annual Summer Games. Weekly practice and coaching is provided by The Arc of Atlantic County staff and volunteers in partnership with Special Olympics NJ - Area 8.
