Village by the Shore offers senior programs through July

Attendees picked up information about the Village, JFS programs and services and volunteer opportunities. Staff will be back at the farmers market on July 14.

MARGATE - The Lynn Kramer Village by the Shore at Jewish Family Service offers cool programs during the hot summer season. Here's your chance to participate in nine fun, unique and entertaining programs in July.


  • Village Film Society, Tuesday, July 11, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a discussion about the motion picture, The Birdcage, starring Nathan Lane and Robin Williams. The classic comedy showcases a gay cabaret owner and his drag queen partner who strive to pass themselves off as a straight couple so their son can introduce them to his fiancée's ultraconservative parents portrayed by Dianne Wiest and Gene Hackman. The film can be viewed via internet (computer, iPad, smart phone) on tubitv.com. RSVP by July 5.

  • Lunch Around Town, Wednesday, July 12, 12-1:30 p.m. Enjoy a leisurely lunch with friends and neighbors while supporting a local restaurant. This month, dine at Fitzpatrick's Deli & Steakhouse, 650 New Road in Somers Point. Come prepared for good food and fun conversation. Order off the menu. Pay individually. RSVP by July 7.

  • Positivity Project: Morning Refresh, Thursday, July 13, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Explore positivity with JFS Wellness Coordinator Mary Jean Arreola and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota. You'll learn ways to boost wellness mind, body and soul. Topics include self-care, mindfulness, gratitude, meditation, and resiliency. RSVP by July 3.

  • Village Goes to the Ventnor Farmers Market, Friday, July 14, 8:30 a.m.-noon. Come visit or volunteer to assist at the Village informational table at the Ventnor City Farmers Market in the St. James Church parking lot, New Haven and Atlantic avenues. Meet, greet and share your enthusiasm for Village events and services as you enjoy sunshine, sea air and an opportunity to shop from local farmers and vendors. Admission is free.

  • Comfort Cooking: Light & Delicious, Tuesday, July 18, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Join healthy eating and gardening guru Bernadette Getzler on a food journey using farm fresh ingredients. Learn to cook your favorite summer recipes in new and creative ways by taking existing ingredients and substituting healthier options. RSVP by July 13.

  • Positivity Project: Evening Retreat, Wednesday, July 19, 7-7:30 p.m. Join JFS Wellness Coordinator Mary Jean Arreola and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for an evening retreat. Shed the cares of the day and prepare for a restful night. Topics include self-care, mindfulness, gratitude, meditation and resiliency. RSVP by July 13.

  • Coffee Klatch, Thursday, July 20, 10:-11:30 a.m. Your world in 60 minutes/ Join a fast-paced discussion on politics, technology, world events, arts, religion and more. Moderated by Village Community Specialist Tina Serota. This month, the program will be available via Zoom only. RSVP by July 17.

  • Memoir WorkshopFriday, July 21, 10:30 a.m.-noon. Experience the thrill of capturing life's adventures, history and ancestry at the Memoir Workshop led by award-winning author and Drexel University Director of Certificate Program in Writing and Publishing Harriet Levin Millan. Learn about publishing your work. You need a laptop or pen/paper for the workshop. This month, the program will be available via Zoom only. RSVP by July 17.

  • Evening Yoga with Candace, Monday, July 24, 7-8 p.m. Join Candace Martin for a Yoga class via Zoom. Find balance and tranquility while experiencing mental, physiological and spiritual rejuvenation as you enjoy quiet stillness and gentle body moves that burn off excess energy. Wind down to a deeper state of relaxation and prepare for your evening rest. RSVP by July 20.

The Lynn Kramer Village by the Shore is a membership program for adults age 50 and over. The program provides intergenerational events, transportation, grocery shopping and delivery, Kosher Meals on Wheels and more.
