MARGATE It started during the pandemic as a way to help local businesses survive reduced indoor dining capacity, but the trend will continue for a fourth year.
The Board of Commissioners Thursday, April 20 approved a resolution extending outdoor dining permits until Oct. 31. The resolution is based on a Senate bill that offers relief to help business owners restore revenue lost during the pandemic.
The resolution allows outdoor dining service until 10 p.m. at locations that apply for a permit to use public rights-of-way, sidewalks and parking lot, but music will be required to end at 9 p.m.
In other business, the board appointed Chuck LaBarr to a new three-year term as Emergency Management Coordinator. Police Chief Matthew Hankinson and Fire Chief Dan Adams will serve as Deputy Emergency Management Coordinators for a three-year term, expiring March 31, 2026.
It also approved road closures on a portion of Amherst Avenue and Madison Avenue during the hours of the Margate Community Farmers Market, which is held in the parking lot and surrounding Steve & Cookies By The Bay restaurant. The market is held 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays, June 15 through Aug. 31.
