Relay for Life Linwood
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Linwood will be held noon-10 p.m. Saturday, May 20 at the Anthony Tony Canale Training Center, 5033 English Creek Ave., next to the EHT Community Center. This year's theme is Every Step Brings Hope.
Relay for Life raises funds for the fight against cancer. Cancer survivors are the guests of honor. They, along with their caregivers, will be featured at the opening ceremonies, in survivor and caregiver laps around the track, and with a complimentary lunch reception.
Frankie LaSasso, the young son of Ocean City football assistant coach Frank LaSasso, will be the survivor speaker. His father will be the caregiver speaker. The healthcare champion speaker will be Dr. James C. Wurzer, a radiation oncologist at AtlantiCare, the presenting sponsor of the event. Noley Schenck, a sophomore at Ocean City High School, will sing the national anthem. NorEasterNick also will make a special apperance noon to 2 p.m.
Throughout the event, participants walk around the track to raise money for cancer. Miss New Jersey Augostina Mallous will judge a special Show Us Your Shoes lap at 3 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring a pair of decorated shoes for the competition.
In addition, there will be food trucks, vendors and activities for all ages. Activities include the Blacktop Villains Car Show noon to 3 p.m., firetrucks, Zumba, Yoga, donut eating contest, wing eating contest, themed laps, and more.
A special highlight is the luminaria candlelight ceremony to honor survivors and to remember those lost to cancer. Luminaria candles line the track with names and pictures of loved ones. A full schedule of activities will be posted closer to the event at RelayforLife.org/LinwoodNJ.
Relay for Life is open to anyone who wants to participate. Volunteers of all ages are welcome.
