SOMERS POINT - The Greate Bay Women's Golf Association once again stepped up in a big way to help local women who are undergoing cancer treatment at Shore Cancer Center. Its annual Swing Golf Tournament held Sept. 28 at Greate Bay Country Club raised $85,000 for the Auxiliary of Shore Medical Center, which will offset medical expenses for women battling cancer.
"Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the members of the Greate Bay Women's Golf Association, many women who are treated at Shore Cancer Center will receive some financial relief at a very difficult time," said Pat Cowan, chairperson of the Swing Golf Tournament committee. Last year, we set a tournament record of $85,000, and this year, we were able to match that which is truly incredible.
Cowan oversaw the tournament in honor of her wife and partner of 25 years, Sue Webb, who passed away in July 2020. Webb was the founder of the tournament.
Auxiliary volunteers work throughout the year on initiatives that include the hospital gift shop, thrift shops, golf tournaments and other community events. Since its inception in 1940, the auxiliary has raised more than $15 million for Shore Medical Center.
