SOMERS POINT - Shore Medical Center recently announced that telemetry nurse Ginny Nelson, BSN, RN, MS of Somers Point has been named its September Guardian Angel of the Month for providing passionate and exceptional patient care.

Shore established the Guardian Angel program to enable community members to say 'thank you' to a special Shore caregiver through a donation to the medical center in their honor.

Nelson began her Shore career in December 2020 as a telemetry night shift nurse, transitioning to day shift in January 2021. She holds a bachelor's degree in nursing and exercise science and received her master's in business administration.

Telemetry nurse manager Luanne McGroarty said Nelson is a great asset to her unit.

"Ginny is an excellent employee with a good foundation in communication and technical skills. In addition to providing exceptional patient care, she is a preceptor for new nurses and a charge nurse. She communicates well with physicians, is a wonderful patient advocate, and is meticulous and charismatic in her communication," McGroarty said. "Shore is lucky to have Ginny. She is not only a good teacher, communicator, and RN but also a good person."

A Shore patient recently made a Guardian Angel donation to the medical center in Nelson's honor and had this to say about her:

"Ginny was my day nurse who got me settled into my room and didn't rush out at the end of her shift. She communicated to me with kindness and respect and was also very efficient, knowledgeable and professional in her conduct. Thank you for the great care and attention you gave me."

Shore Medical Center's Guardian Angel program provides an opportunity for patients and families to recognize anyone at Shore who makes a difference in their care or experience. Guardian Angels are recognized among their peers and presented with a Guardian Angel pin at Shore's annual pinning ceremony.
