Pastor Vicky Ney held the annual Blessing of the Animals Sunday afternoon on the grounds of the Margate Community Church.
Families brought their dogs of all sizes and a couple of cats who are brothers. They were all very well behaved and barked at the appropriate time when Pastor Ney's recited a prayer of remembrance for animals who have been abused or killed.
She read from the Book of Genesis that on the fifth day, God created the creatures living in the water and birds who vault across the heavens. He saw that it was good and created humans to have dominion over all living creatures.
Pastor Ney then spoke about the six lessons we can learn from our pets: to live in the present moment, work together to accomplish good things, take the time to rest, be brave, listen more than you speak, and forgive and love unconditionally.
She then greeted each pup and kitty individually blessing them and wishing them a long and happy life with their pet parents.
Pups and their pup parents enjoyed a few tasty treats in the church hall after the service.
