The annual Ironman70.3 Atlantic City will impact traffic in and around Atlantic City and the Downbeach area Sunday, Sept. 10.
The triathlon includes hundreds of world-class athletes competing in the race, which includes a 1.2-mile swim in the back bay of Atlantic City starting at Bader Field, a 56-mile bike course that travels across mainland roads before circling back into Atlantic City via the Atlantic City Expressway. The last leg of the course is a 13.1-mile out-and-back run along the Atlantic City and Ventnor boardwalks, with the finish line at Kennedy Plaza on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, where an awards ceremony will be held at 4 p.m.
Atlantic City Expressway Exists 1-5 will be closed from 3:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Motorists can expect heavy traffic delays on US Rt. 322/Albany Avenue from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Use other routes to access the city.
Avoid the Albany Avenue bridge if traveling to Ventnor, Margate and Longport. Use West End/Wellington Avenue, Downbeach Express or Longport Bridge.
The tunnel to Brigantine will be closed. Access Brigantine from Rt. 30.
Motorists traveling in Pleasantville and Egg Harbor Township may experience traffic delays and detours on Delilah, Westcoat roads, Atlantic 651 and New Road from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Traffic delays are also expected in Absecon along Mill, Fire, Westcoat and Ohio roads from 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
