MARGATE - Fool Moon Theatre Company's hilarious farce A Bad Year for Tomatoes will be presented May 10-12 and May 17-19 at the Margate Community Church, 8900 Ventnor Ave. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright John Patrick, Tomatoes tells the story of a Hollywood star who seeks peace to write her memoirs in a sleepy New England town and has her life upended by local zanies, a psychotic doppelganger, and a murder charge.

It's flat out funny, Director Paul Herron said. We're thrilled to bring this little known classic American comedy to the Margate stage.

The production stars Fool Moon Theatre veterans Kate Read, Mike Schlapp and Kerry Burns of Northfield, Victoria Biron of Linwood, Chikita Wallace of Brigantine, Pamela Dollak of Ocean City, and Rich McMahan of Absecon.

Patrick wrote more than 35 plays and won the Pulitzer Prize for Tea House of the August Moon. He wrote more than 30 movies and television screenplays including High Society, Les Girls and Shoes of the Fisherman.

Fool Moon Theatre celebrates great writing, and Mr. Patrick's writing ranks with the best American playwrights, board President Pattye Herron said. The Fool Moon board laughed out loud when we read the script and knew immediately we wanted to produce it. And we found the perfect cast, all great comic actors.

Fool Moon Theatre's next production, Stephen Sondheim's A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to The Forum, opens July 19.
