MARGATE - The Lynn Kramer Village by the Shore at Jewish Family Service of Atlantic & Cape May Counties will offer a host of interactive and entertaining programs in May. With both virtual and in-person options to participate, you, your family, friends and neighbors will enjoy these nine programs.
Women's Coffee & Conversation: A View of Women's Healthcare - Monday, May 13, 10:30 a.m.
Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota, Bratton Law Group's Jen Hand, Katz JCC's Bridget Giblin, Angelic Health's Carolyn Johnson Peterson, Alzheimer's Association's Mary Beth Lewis, and UMC's Michele Musto as they host professional speakers on issues that impact a woman's ability to live her best life. This month will focus on A Day in the Life of a Small Town Jersey Shore Female Physician. Dr. Jacqueline Rounds, DO, will take you on a journey through a typical day at home and the office. She will discuss the pros and cons in current corporate insurance and healthcare systems as well as legal and moral ramifications medical professionals and patients face when care is provided or withheld. Memory Connections - Monday, May 13, 1 p.m.
Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota, Alzheimer's Association's Mary Beth Lewis, Angelic Health's Carolyn Johnson Peterson, Bratton Law Group's Jen Hand, UMC's Michele Musto, and Katz JCC's Bridget Giblin for a gathering of caregivers of loved ones with dementia and the person living with the disease. Caregivers will participate in a support group led by a trained professional while their loved one will enjoy a socialization activity. Light refreshments will be served. Village Film Society - Tuesday, May 14, 10:30 a.m.
Join Village film enthusiast and historic cinematic buff Tom Celandine and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a discussion about the Oscar nominated movie, The Holdovers, a story about a curmudgeon instructor at a New England prep school who remains on campus during the Christmas break to chaperone a handful of students with nowhere to go. Soon, he forms an unlikely bond with a brainy troublemaker and the school's head cook who lost her son in the Vietnam War. The star-studded movie can be viewed on Peacock, Prime Video, Apple TV, and YouTube or is available at the Ventnor and Margate libraries. This program is via Zoom and a link will be emailed. Coffee Klatch: Congressional Candidates Forum - Tuesday, May 14 from 6pm to 7pm
Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota as she welcomes Democrat candidate Tim Alexander vying for the 2nd Congressional District in the House of Representatives. You'll hear where he stands on matters that affect everyday lives and issues we face as a nation. Q&A session follows. Light refreshments will be served. SCOSA Festival on Successful Aging - Wednesday, May 15, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Visit Village Community Specialist Tina Serota as she hosts a table at the Stockton Center on Successful Aging (SCOSA), which coincides with National Older Americans Month. The festival will explore the future of personalized healthcare through active aging, spirituality, healing, blue zones, age friendly care and more. This program takes place at the Stockton University Campus Center, 101 Vera King Farris Dr., Galloway Township. Admission is free.
Memoir Workshop - Friday, May 17 and May 31, 10:30 a.m. to noon each day
Experience the thrill of capturing life's adventures, history, and ancestry and learn about publishing your work at the Memoir Workshop led by award-winning author and Drexel University Director of Certificate Program in Writing and Publishing Harriet Levin Millan. A laptop or pen and paper is needed. This program is via Zoom and a link will be emailed. RSVP by May 14.
Lunch Around Town - Wednesday, May 22, noon
Enjoy a leisurely lunch with friends while supporting a local restaurant. This month, we'll dine at Isabella's Ventnor Café, 4 South Portland Avenue in Ventnor. Come prepared for good food and conversation. Order off the menu and pay individually. RSVP by May 16.
Memory Café: Ocean City - Tuesday, May 28, 10:30 a.m.
Caregivers and their loved ones living with Dementia are invited to join Village and UMC representatives in a dementia friendly space. Experience creativity and social connections through art, music, gentle movements, and more. Attend in-person at the Ocean City Free Public Library, 1735 Simpson Ave., Ocean City. RSVP by May 21.
Village Goes to the Ventnor Farmers Market - Friday, May 31 from 8:30 a.m. to noon
Come visit or volunteer to assist at the Village informational table at the Ventnor Farmers Market, located in the St. James Church parking lot, New Haven and Atlantic avenues. Meet, greet and share your enthusiasm for Village events and services as you enjoy sunshine, sea air and an opportunity to shop from local farmers and vendors. Admission is free.
