U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-2nd, will host a hearing on offshore wind Tuesday in Brigantine.
The meeting, set for 1 p.m. at the Brigantine Community School at 301 E. Evans Blvd., will include members of Congress and others speaking about the impacts of offshore wind energy, including utility costs, acoustics, environmental impact and disaster resilience.
Van Drew, a staunch opponent of offshore wind, will be joined by U.S. Reps. Chris Smith (R-4th), and Scott Perry (R-Pa.) along with experts on public utilities, wind energy acoustics and the fishing industry. A community leader from Nantucket, Massachusetts, where a wind farm operator was ordered to suspend operations after a wind turbine blade fell into the water, broke apart and washed up on beaches, will also speak.
VanDrew is running for re-election in November and is being challenged by Democrat Joe Salerno of Lower Township.
