Atlantic County Firearms Training Facility offers the basics and more

  • Atlantic County

The Atlantic County Firearms Training Facility offers a wide range of training and educational opportunities for residents, including basic firearms safety courses for the new and novice shooters to advanced classes required to obtain a NJ permit to carry a concealed firearm.

The facility, located at 175 Betsy Scull Road in Egg Harbor Township, has seven ranges and two classrooms. A cadre of fully certified instructors provide one-on-one instruction to help members hone their skills and enjoy time target shooting in a safe and friendly environment.

In addition to the catalog of training classes, the Atlantic County Firearms Training Facility also conducts monthly qualification programs for retired police officers.

All instructors hold certifications through the National Rifle Association, the State of New Jersey or have Federal Law Enforcement Instructor Training.   Most also hold certifications in numerous disciplines within the shooting sports.

Though primarily a law enforcement training facility, it is open for public shooters on Saturdays and Sundays. Membership is required to access the facility ranges. Completion of an entry level safety class is required in order to become a member.

Prospective members can enroll online for the FAST Class for Handguns or First Steps Rifle classes by visiting the county web page at atlanticcountynj.gov. Once the initial safety class is completed, shooters are eligible to take other courses.  These include: Firearms for Beginners, two-day Basic Pistol or Basic Rifle courses Intermediate Pistol, Holstering and Personal Protection in the Home.

The 36-hour Essential Pistol Instruction for Carry Class (EPIC) will help prepare individuals for the ultimate responsibility of carrying a concealed firearm in public. This class is substantially equivalent to the firearms program offered to police recruits in the State of New Jersey and includes a low light training evolution.

From Rimfire Rifle matches to a Steel Plate Challenge, competitive shooters enjoy the comradery and atmosphere of the facility.  A Ladies Shooting Group, which meets one evening a month, offers training courses to both new and experienced shooters in a low stress, ladies only environment.
