Downbeach communities to hold annual 911 remembrance ceremonies

American Legion Post 469 of Longport will hold its annual 911 memorial ceremony 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Thomas B. Reed Park at the foot of the Longport bridge.

The brief but meaningful ceremony will focus on remembering those who perished during the attack and those who gave their lives trying to save their fellow Americans.

The Margate City Fire Department will also hold its tribute ceremony at 9 a.m. at Fire Station #1 located at Ventnor and Washington avenues.

The service will last about 25 minutes and include prayers by local clergy, music tributes and comments from local dignitaries.

Atlantic City will hold its annual Saracini-O’Neill 911 Ceremony at 10 a.m. on the Boardwalk at Jackson Avenue. Rain date is 10 a.m. Sept. 12.

The ceremony includes the Sandpipers Pipes and Drums of Atlantic County providing patriotic songs, a 40-ton patriotic themed sand sculpture by John Gowdy, a three-round Civil War cannon volley and Last Salute’s memorial flag presentation.

The public is encouraged to attend to honor the victims and all first responders.
