SOMERS POINT - Shore Medical Center has announced that Donna Byrnes, RN-BC, ONC, a nurse with its Advanced Spine and Orthopedic Institute, has been named its August Guardian Angel of the Month for providing passionate and exceptional patient care.
Shore established the Guardian Angel program to enable community members to say 'thank you' to a special Shore caregiver through a donation to the medical center in their honor.
Byrnes began her career at Shore Medical Center in 2003 and has worked as a nurse in the ASOI unit ever since. In her role, she cares for patients recovering from spine and orthopedic surgeries and stroke.
“Donna coordinates and provides excellent patient care, which includes educating patients on their health conditions,” Nurse Manager Elaine Toolsie said. " Additionally, she provides emotional support to her patients and their families during times of stress."
A patient recently made a Guardian Angel donation to the medical center in Byrnes' honor and had this to say about her: "Being a non-clinical person who found themselves in the Emergency Department with unusual and scary symptoms was very frightening. Then, to be admitted was very concerning. I am so appreciative of Donna, my nurse, who was so responsive, calm, and patient. It also was very comforting that she took the time to answer my questions and give me explanations, which helped put me at ease. Thank you, Donna!"
A resident of Egg Harbor Township, Byrnes enjoys reading, traveling, crocheting and spoiling her grandchildren.
Shore Medical Center's Guardian Angel program provides an opportunity for patients and families to recognize anyone at Shore who makes a difference in their care or experience. Guardian Angels are recognized among their peers and presented with a Guardian Angel pin at Shore's annual pinning ceremony.
