This month, the group will discuss the book,” Long Island” by Colm Toibin. The New York Times bestseller and critically acclaimed intense novel intertwines secrecy, misunderstandings, love, and longings unfilled and even unrecognized. Join Tom Celandine and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a discussion about the Academy award-nominated docudrama, “Good Night, and Good Luck,” starring George Clooney and Jeff Daniels. Set in 1953 America during the Cold War, the film focuses on the theme of media responsibility and addresses what occurs when journalism offers voices of dissent from government policy. The movie can be viewed on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Google Play, YouTube, and is available at the Ventnor and Margate libraries. Move through adolescent, reproductive, midlife and post-menopausal years, and learn how the inter-connectedness of the mind and body increasingly affects overall wellbeing. JFS Family Life Education Supervisor Sharon Simon will lead participants on a journey of exploration and offers techniques for developing an individualized positive mindset approach. Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota, Alzheimer’s Association’s Mary Beth Lewis, Angelic Health’s Carolyn Johnson Peterson, Bratton Law Group’s Jen Hand, UMC’s Michele Musto, and Katz JCC’s Bridget Giblin for a gathering of caregivers of loved ones with dementia and the person living with the disease. Caregivers will participate in a support group led by a trained professional while their loved one will enjoy a socialization activity. Light refreshments will be served. Seminar by the Shore: Conference on Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias, Thursday, Sept.26, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota at a full-day conference for family members, caregivers, and professionals supporting people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The event includes breakfast, lunch, free adult daycare, resource expo to support caregivers and individuals living with the disease, educational breakout sessions with renowned experts, and CEU credits for professionals.
