UPDATE: Body found in search for missing Galloway man

The search for a retired Absegami High School teacher missing from his Galloway Township has led to a body being recovered.

Alan Levin, 84, was last seen at about 6 Saturday morning, when he left his Smithville home, his son wrote in a Facebook post.

His black Honda CRV was found Sunday afternoon, near the Port Republic Bridge, police said. 

After an extensive search, a drone team from the Atlantic City Police and Fire departments located a body matching his description along the bank, about three-tenths of a mile east of the bridge, according to the report. Police have not positively identified the body.

The circumstances surrounding Levin's disappearance is under investigation by Galloway police and N.J. State Police.

The scene remains active as recovery efforts are in place.

"On behalf of my family, I want to thank all of you for rallying around my father," Kevin Levin wrote in a Facebook post. "Your well wishes and assistance have given us all strength and comfort during this incredibly difficult time. Unfortunately, we received the worst news possible this morning about dad. We ask that you give us some space to deal with our grief. Please know that we are all together. Will share news about final arrangements very soon."

The Galloway Township Police Department thanked the public for sharing information regarding Levin.
