Some do it just for fun, others to raise money for a good cause, but regardless of motivation, braving the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean is a customary way to ring in the New Year at the shore.
Many year-round residents are joined by holiday visitors to take a dip in the ocean. This year, the timing is perfect to do it again and again. Polar bears can plunge on the hour starting at noon on New Year's Day, with the final plunge at 2 p.m. in Ocean City. Pre- and post-activities including imbibing, eating, and just continuing the party from the night before.
Atlantic City
The Cancer Support Community New Jersey at Gilda’s Club will host the 33rd annual Atlantic City Polar Bear Plunge on the beach in front of Landshark Bar & Grill at Resorts Hotel & Casino. Plunge registration begins at 10 a.m. Fee is $25 and includes a T-shirt. Proceeds benefit CSCNJ in support of those affected by cancer. Brigantine
The Brigantine Polar Bear Plunge festivities kick off at 10 a.m. on the beach between 16th and 17th streets with music, dancing and food trucks. The plunge is held at noon following a ceremony honoring veterans and a costume parade. Winners of a 50-50 will be announced 1 p.m. T-shirts are available for purchase with proceeds benefiting Fisher House, which provides housing and services for veterans.
Margate

Ventnor
The Ventnor Business Association and Ventnor Special Events will host the city’s annual Polar Plunge and Winter Festival 1 p.m. on the beach at Newport Avenue. A family winter festival will be held afterwards at St. James Memorial Hall. The event includes food trucks, refreshments, inflatable games and a DJ. The Ventnor City Police and Fire departments will face off in a Chili Cookoff, with proceeds benefiting their benevolent associations.

The First Ocean Plunge starts at 2 p.m. on the beach adjacent to the Music Pier (on the Eighth Street side). Participants should register inside the Music Pier before heading to the beach. Registration is free, but all participants must sign a waiver. First Day At The Beach shirts will be on sale at the Music Pier.
