MARGATE The Board of Commissioners Thursday swore-in two officers who will be fully trained and ready to start patrolling the city come summer.

Michael Barillo takes the oath of office.

Commissioner of Public Safety Cathy Horn administered the oath of office for Michael Barillo and Nicholas Carrero to become full-time officers in the Margate City Police Department. They are both currently attending the Atlantic County Police Academy and will complete their training before the influx of summer residents and visitors to the Jersey shore.

Nicholas Carrero takes the oath of office.

Barillo and Carrero were originally hired as special Class 2 officers and will be filling vacancies created by the retirement of other officers.

Barillo, 27, of Margate, is a 2015 graduate of Atlantic City High School and spent four years in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electronics technician.

Carrero, 22, lives in Galloway Township. He graduated from Absegami High School in 2019 and went on to achieve an associate's degree from Rowan University. He was on the wrestling team at both institutions.
