Police investigate smash-and-grab burglary at exclusive Margate boutique

  • Crime-Courts

Margate police are investigating the theft of thousands of dollars’ worth of high-end fashion from a local boutique.

Police were called to Caroline’s Fashion Luxuries at 9412 Ventnor Ave. at about 2:40 a.m., after receiving an alarm call, Public Information Officer Joseph Scullion said in a release. There were also numerous 911 calls from witnesses who said they saw suspects break the plate glass window at the front of the store.

The suspects entered the business and stole multiple items on display and in display cases, according to the report. They then left the scene in a vehicle traveling along Ventnor Avenue.

Caroline’s is the type of boutique where you can pick up a Hermes Birkin to go along with your Dolce & Gabbana dress, Christian Louboutin booties and Tiffany jewelry.

The owner, Caroline Yosef, also owns high-end fashion stores in Cherry Hill and Haddonfield.

An attempt to reach Yousef at the Margate store was unsuccessful. An employee, who said she was called to the store in the early morning hours, said Yosef was unavailable because she was at the Police Station talking with investigators.

Officers spent hours processing the scene and collecting evidence. They are also seeking surveillance video from other locations near the store trying to get a closer look at the vehicle and actors responsible for the crime, Scullion said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Chris Bradley or Detective Erin Borrelli at 609-822-1151.
