ATLANTIC CITY - The Historic Organ Restoration Committee Hall will present a unique day of music Wednesday, July 17 when the famed Midmer-Losh pipe organ at historic Jim Whelan Boardwalk will accompany a classic silent film. The day begins at 10 a.m. with a curator’s tour inside the world’s largest pipe organ. At Noon, organist Ian Frasier, winner of the American Theatre Organ Society Young Organists Competition, will play a free 30-minute recital on the Midmer-Losh organ. Then, at 2 p.m. a free classic car show will be held on the arena floor, with brief demonstrations of the Midmer-Losh organ during the car show, which ends at 4:30 p.m. At 5 p.m., the program includes a screening of “The Black Pirate,” a 1927 silent film featuring Douglas Fairbanks, that will be accompanied on the Midmer-Losh by Organist Brett Miller. The plot follows a nobleman who vows to avenge the death of his father at the hands of pirates. To this end, he infiltrates the pirate band. Acting in character, he is instrumental in the capture of a ship, but things are complicated when he finds that there is a young woman on board whom he wishes to protect. In 1993, The Black Pirate was included in the annual selection of 25 motion pictures added to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress, being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” The film runs 90 minutes. If you are interested in bringing your car to the show, registration is $30 and includes two tickets to the silent film in the evening. Registration for the car show can be made at www.boardwalkorgans.org by calling 609-221-5435.
