Margate holds 21st annual Wine Tasting to raise money for students

  • Community

The Margate Business Association Friday evening held its 21st annual Wine Tasting event at Memories in Margate. The event raises money for students of the Margate school district to complete their educations or to support students in need.

Nearly 200 philanthropic minded individuals attended the event to socialize and bid on donated items, which included dinners at high-end restaurants, golf packages, entertainment, autographed sports memorabilia and more. The auction was held online during the event, which included small bites prepared by Memories, along with craft beer, wine and spirits tastings offered by area breweries, wineries and distilleries.

The event is co-chaired annually by Paula Hartman and her daughter Dana Hartman-Hiltner.

Proceeds of the event fund the Daniel and Maria Walters Scholarship Program, which has provided more than $125,000 in scholarships to city students over the past 20 years.

MBA President Ed Berger encouraged attendees to bid on the auction items to help students in Margate who need things such as warm clothing, eyeglasses and summer camp opportunities.

The next fundraising event is the Ducky Derby planned for 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25 on the bay at Washington Avenue. Raffle tickets were on sale during the event and can be purchased in person at other events held in town or at the event. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20. Cash prizes are awarded at the finish line.
