VENTNOR – The city will host its annual National Night Out event starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 behind the Ventnor Library on Newport Avenue.
The event features children’s activities, games, public safety displays, face painting and other fun things to do, all with a message about how community involvement can prevent crime.
National Night Out was started 41 years ago and quickly became a national celebration that promotes partnerships between police and community. Residents are encouraged to turn off the TV, unplug devices and get out of the house to celebrate with friends and family in an effort to build partnerships that help residents feel safe throughout the year.
Free food will be offered to the first 250 participants. Meal tickets must be picked up at the Ventnor Special Events tent set up at the event. There will also be free ice cream, a DJ, crafters and a special visit from Elvis.
A movie will be shown at 7 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the city’s Office of Emergency Management and public safety organizations, including the Police Benevolent Association Local 97 and the Ventnor Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association Local 38.
