Ventnor Yard Sale Weekend, June 22-23, 2024.

VENTNOR – The city held its annual community yard sale event Saturday with participants selling their wares in every Ventnor neighborhood. Although it was scorching hot offshore, the weather Downbeach was sunny, pleasant and breezy, making it a perfect day for bargain hunting.
Shoppers were out in force looking for the perfect nicknack for their summer cottages. Residents took advantage of the opportunity to get rid of no longer wanted household items.

Joanne Kenny of Margate was at her son’s home in Ventnor selling whatever they could to make room for more stuff. Her grandchildren Cora, 6, and Emma, 10, were selling bracelets and jewelry Ella made.
Sarah McNamara of Northfield was helping to clear out items of a home.
“This is the home of Pat Johnston who passed away last summer,” McNamara said. “I’m helping her children clear out the house.”
Items were placed all along the front lawn of the Ventnor Heights home.
“Traffic has been good,” she said.
“People started coming very early this morning around 7 a.m. It’s been steady and we got rid of a lot of stuff,” Richard Blum said.
Cindy Blum was selling letters she purchased way back when to make an art project that never materialized.
She and her friends quickly donned their “fascinators” to pose for a picture. The group purchased the novelty hats for the Kentucky Derby. Now they were in a box waiting for a bargain hunter to snap them up for a song. On the steps nearby, was a full collection of Lenox china waiting for a discerning buyer.
In the center of town, Renee Battle said she sold a good amount of items, including Christmas ornaments, decorative items, and an antique rocking chair.
Her mother Lori Battle of Galloway Township was there to help, but mostly, to have fun, she said.
“We’ll cut the prices because no one wants to lug this stuff back into the house,” she said. “But this is fun, and it’s not supposed to be more than that. It’s a good way to clean out the house and have fun while doing it. It’s a joy to be out talking with people.”
A young woman wearing a "Bride To Be” sash was looking for a white dress or wedding gown.
“Not for me to wear, but for a scavenger hunt,” she said.
She is one of three brides – soon to be cousins – that came to Ventnor for a girls’ weekend out before they get married in fall, winter and spring.
Her future mother-in-law, Lois Hemsinger, is one of eight sisters, six of them attending the weekend of fun at the homes of three of the sisters.
Their weekend of fun included trying to find fake engagement rings planted all over one of her sister’s homes, and a champagne glass painting party afterward. Saturday brought on the brides’ scavenger hunt.
About 20 women attended the weekend soiree. The group was divided into four teams and each bride was given a list of items to search for during yard sale weekend, such as a white dress, champagne flutes, something old, something new and something blue.
“All wedding related items,” Hamsinger said. “Prizes will be awarded to the bride team that gets the most points.”
The women were looking forward to seeing which of the brides would wind up finding the perfect wedding dress – perhaps one good enough to wear on her big day?
