Village by the Shore offers fun programs for adults 50+

MARGATE - The Lynn Kramer Village by the Shore at Jewish Family Service offers cool programs during the hot summer season. Participate in fun, unique and entertaining programs in July. Thoughts from the Bookshelf, Tuesday, July 2, 3 p.m. Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota and Thoughts from the Bookshelf Facilitator Pat Goldstein for a lively and thoughtful discussion about books and life. This month, the group will discuss the novella, “Small Things Like These” by Claire Keegan. The story focuses on Bill Furlong, a family man and coal merchant embarking on his busiest season. While delivering an order to the local convent, Bill makes a discovery which forces him to confront his past and the complicit silences of a town controlled by the church. Positivity Project Joins The Mindful Movers, Wednesday, July 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31, 9 a.m. Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota as she explores mindfulness, gratitude and meditation followed by a walk with friends and neighbors on the Ventnor boardwalk. Care for your mind, spirit, and body. Program begins at the beachfront park at Newport Avenue in Ventnor. RSVP by the Monday prior to each walk. Village Goes to the Ventnor Farmers Market, Friday, July 5 and 19, 8:30 a.m. to noon Volunteer to assist at the Village informational table at the Ventnor Farmers Market in the parking lot at St. James Church, Newport and Atlantic avenues, Ventnor. Meet, greet and share your enthusiasm for Village events and services as you enjoy sunshine, sea air and an opportunity to shop from local farmers and vendors. Admission is free. Village Film Society, Tuesday, July 9, 10:30 a.m. Join Village film enthusiast and historic cinematic buff Tom Celandine and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a discussion about the movie, “The Third Man,” starring Orson Welles, Trevor Howard and Joseph Cotten. Set in postwar Vienna, a penniless writer of pulp westerns arrives as a guest of his childhood friend, only to discover he died. The writer develops a conspiracy theory after learning of a third man present at the time of his friend’s death. The star-studded movie can be viewed on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Crackle, Google Play, Roku Channel, Tubi, and YouTube and is available at the Margate library. This program is via Zoom and a link will be emailed. RSVP by July 5. Lunch Around Town, Monday, July 15, noon to 1:30 p.m. Enjoy a leisurely lunch with friends while supporting a local restaurant. This month, dine at La Pizza Tega, 210 New Road in Linwood. Come prepared for good food and conversation. Order off the menu and pay individually. RSVP by July 11. Village Goes to the Margate Farmers Market, Thursday, July 25, 8:30-11:30 a.m. Come visit or volunteer to assist at the Village informational table at the Margate Farmers Market, located in Steve & Cookie’s restaurant parking lot on Monroe and Amherst avenues in Margate. Meet, greet and share your enthusiasm for Village events and services as you enjoy sunshine, sea air and an opportunity to shop from local farmers and vendors. Admission is free.
