Frank Formica.
NORTHFIELD - Former Atlantic County Commissioner Frank Formica of Absecon was unanimously appointed Tuesday to fill the unexpired term of John Lyons on the board of the Atlantic County Utilities Authority. Formica stood before the Board of County Commissioners March 5 to answer any questions commissioners had about his appointment.
It's been several years since I left public service, said Formica, a lifetime county resident and local businessman, and I am truly humbled by the overwhelming support and glowing remarks I received from each of the county commissioners.
The ACUA provides essential services for the county, including recycling, solid waste and wastewater management, in addition to providing public awareness campaigns.
Formica served in the U.S. Air Force and received training in the science of water and wastewater treatment and operations as well as the environmental impacts of hazmat landfills. He was later assigned as a water treatment plant operator.
In addition to addressing the public's concerns about the odors emanating from the ACUA landfill, he is interested in plans for the removal and disposal of trash once the landfill reaches its capacity.
My goal is to contribute to the authority's ability to further develop and improve its services for the betterment of our residents, Formica stated.
