VENTNOR Mayor Lance Landgraf and the Board of Commissioners Thursday, April 25 honored 15-time Gold Medal Powerlifter Christian Bergman for his enthusiasm, caring spirit and commitment to family and community.
Escorted into the meeting room by members of the Beach Patrol and Fire Department, the presentation came as a surprise to Bergman.
He is a part of our community and everybody knows it, Landgraf said. We thank him for what he does for everyone here in the city.
Christian has been a fixture on the Ventnor City Beach Patrol where his Pop Stan Bergman has been chief for many years. Christian has spent countless hours supporting the city's lifesavers, the proclamation stated.
Christian is a graduate of the Riverview School in Cape Cod, where he was class president and captain of the Baseball, and Track and Field teams. He is passionate about sports and went on to become an award-winning powerlifter with the Special Olympics organization, where he took home 15 gold medals.
As a sports enthusiast, his favorite professional teams are the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, Flyers and Union.
Christian Bergman also volunteers for the Ventnor City Fire Department, where he can be found offering day-to-day assistance and offering positive encouragement to all those he encounters, Landgraf said.
