MAYS LANDING - Atlantic Cape Community College Student Government Association recognized the contributions of its many diverse student clubs and its advisors, along with acknowledging and honoring some of the college's finest and most dedicated students, staff and faculty members at the SGA's annual Club Recognition Program Ceremony May 2 in the Student Center on the Mays Landing campus.
As we celebrate the college's 60th anniversary this year, we are excited again to celebrate our clubs and recognize the accomplishments of our students, and thank our dedicated club advisors, faculty, staff, and the many departments that support us in our efforts to provide a vibrant campus culture, Assistant Director of Student Engagement Lisa Givens said.
On behalf of Atlantic Cape President Barbara Gaba, Chief of Staff Jean McAlister welcomed everyone tand acknowledged the spirit of dedication and service that the honorees exhibited this year.
Campus clubs and organizations are crucial components of student life on our college campus. They provide students with the opportunity for professional and personal development, social interaction and community engagement, McAlister said. To those in the clubs, you are the heart and soul of our students. You are their voice as well.
Special awards were presented to the following recipients in their respective categories:
Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs Josette Katz remarked about the important role that being active in student clubs plays throughout a student's time at Atlantic Cape.
Our college is not just a place to take classes and earn a degree. It's a community where students come to grow and thrive, and at the heart of this community is our clubs. They serve as vehicles for personal and academic growth, and foster a sense of belonging, Katz said. The camaraderie you have with your faculty members, club advisor and fellow students have helped you cultivate essential life skills that extend beyond the classroom.
Finally, outgoing 2023-24 SGA President and Class of 2024 graduate Sultana Zakia presented the incoming 2024-25 SGA President Juwan Torres with the ceremonial gavel.
